Born and trained as a photographer in Nuremberg, Germany, Beatrice moved to London to assist several fashion, music and
advertising photographers like Sheila Rock, Michael Hoppen and Tony Chau.
She then worked as a commercial photographer for Freemans catalogue and also photographed actors and bands like 'The Girl
can't help it' for Piere Tubbs.
After the birth of her two children, and moving to Brighton, Beatrice studied psychology at Sussex University. However missing
photography she went back to it and from 2000 exhibits her work in galleries and museums in England and Germany. This
started with the 1920's style portraits Alexandra&Valentina in Paris, shown at the Media Centre in Brighton. After having been
commissioned to photograph for the 'Juicy Guide' to Brighton&Hove, she developed her graphic monochrome series of her new
home town. This was followed by A Californian Journey exhibition during which she discovered her passion for trees in particular
Joshua trees the resilient inhabitants of the Californian Desert.
In 2004 Beatrice completed her Master’s Degree in Photography & Design at the University of Brighton, resulting in an
internationally published photography book 'The Whisper of a Million Leaves' by fine art publisher Damiani Editore.
The book was launched with an exhibition in London at the Spitz Gallery in October 2006, opened by Jon Snow (ITN)
Following this success Beatrice has curated external photographic projects as the 'Imagining the Garden', exhibition at the
Jubilee Library in Brighton in June 2007, a research project by the University of Brighton using the Mass Observation Archive.
From 2009 she worked as a sessional photography lecturer at City College Brighton and at Birmingham Institute of Art& Design
(BIAD). Additionally Beatrice taught photography to 11-17 year olds at Roedean School and from January 2015 Beatrice has
been running an outreach program in photography for City College, teaching digital photography at the Whitehwk Inn and the
Bridge community centre. She is now course leader for the UAL Foundation and Extended Diploma in Photography at
Brighton Metropolitan College.
Beatrice has been a facilitator of regular photography project feedback workshops ‘The Brighton ArtsFORUM’ with Vanessa Jones,
based at the Brighton Media Centre. Offering a platform for peer and professional open critique, helping to define unfinished
photographic projects.
Combining her photography and tutoring skills, in 2011, Beatrice was commissioned by publisher A&C Black; Bloomsbury Group,
to produce a photography skills book for teenagers. This popular guide ‘Instant Expert Photo Skills’ was published worldwide in
October 2011, also available from Amazon.
Beatrice also offers 1:1 and private small group tutorials on location, as well as individual and family portrait sessions in client’s
